This was not your average surf session that took place with Blair Conklin, the famous wave riding visionary and surf park enthusiast. Beyond the fact that we were surfing in an ‘unusual’ place (in landlocked Munich), this was a special day of wave testing during the commissioning of our first surf lagoon at O2 SURFTOWN MUC. We were lucky to have Blair stop by the pool and join our engineers as they fine-tuned some of our first waves ever made. Alternating between surfboard and skimboard, and having a crack at pretty much any wave type he wanted, Blair was more than happy to play test pilot for the day and get the opportunity to leave his mark on the world’s first Endless Surf pool.
After just a few hours of wave testing, our wave engineers were able to take Blair’s invaluable feedback watch him surf the tweaks in real-time. At the end of the day, we were able to agree on many new wave settings, including one that he is calling, “one of the best air sections, if not the best air section I’ve been able to hit in a wave pool.”
We can attest that his stoke was off the charts! Watch for yourself in his vlog:
The flexibility of being able to change a wave with the push of a button, is such a treat. My mind was just spinning with all the possibilities of things I could try. It’s so cool to watch your feedback go into play and create something you could only dream of… This place is insane for everything.”
Beyond the barrels and air sections however, the ‘icing on the cake’ for Blair was the run-in skim wave, which he’s ‘never had at any other pool technology.’ Pretty much immediately when arriving, Blair noticed the center peninsula that is unique to ES. As he watched the first wave of the day peel across the pool, he deemed the wave ‘skimmable’ and grabbed his finless board to give the run-in a go. Nailing the skim entry after only a few quick attempts was a very exciting moment for Blair. And for good reason… as his viral Instagram clip has now reached over 12 million views.
