Planning Approved for Surf London: Endless Surf Bringing Waves to UK Capital

Surf London — powered by Endless Surf technology — has received planning approval from the London Borough of Enfield, marking a major milestone for the project. With referral to the Greater London Authority (GLA) and final agreements expected to conclude later this year, construction could begin as early as 2026.

Located within the Lee Valley Leisure Complex in North London, Surf London will be the UK’s first urban surf and active-leisure destination — a 104-acre parkland development anchored by an ES48 lagoon. Beyond the waves, visitors can expect a mix of well-being, sport, and lifestyle experiences, including restaurants, cafés, unique event spaces, and serene accommodation that bring surf culture to the heart of the city.

A Landmark for Urban Surfing

With our ES48 model at the core of the project, Surf London will deliver longer rides, expanded wave customization, and advanced operational control through our Swell Studio software. The result: a surf destination capable of hosting everything from beginner sessions to elite global events — all within the energy of a Tier-1 global capital.

“Surf London represents what Endless Surf was designed for — powerful, flexible waves that thrive in an urban environment,” said Paul Chutter, President of Endless Surf. “This project embodies the future of inland surfing: accessible, community-driven, and deeply connected to the culture of its city.”

Adding to the excitement, Hazel Geary, CEO of Crest Experiences, shared:

We’re incredibly grateful to the London Borough of Enfield for their support. We recognise that this is not final approval, and we’ll continue to work closely with the authorities to complete the application. This is a big milestone for Surf London, and we’re really excited to continue to progress the detailed planning so we are in a position to start construction next year.”

Surf London: Community, Connection, and Progression

Beyond surf, the redevelopment of the Lee Valley site will bring new jobs, accessible parklands, and active-lifestyle opportunities for local residents. More than 200 jobs are expected to be created once the project is complete, alongside extensive public access to outdoor recreation areas and discounted participation programs for local communities.

As the second Endless Surf project in Europe, following O₂ SURFTOWN MUC in Munich, Surf London continues the wave technology’s global momentum — with projects underway across North America, South America, the Middle East, and Australia — all proving the adaptability of Endless Surf technology to a wide range of environments and business models.
